Best Things To Do in Pula

Therefore, it is highly recommended not to overlook Pula and to seize the opportunity to explore the amazing attractions it has to offer.

Pula Cathedral

The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, also known as Pula Cathedral, serves as a co-cathedral within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pula and Poreč.

Its construction dates back to the 5th century AD, but it gained prominence in the 1600s when five sarcophagi containing the remains of early Christian saints were discovered beneath the main altar. There are claims that the remains of Solomon, the King of Hungary, were also among the findings.

Adjacent to the cathedral, a bell tower was erected in 1707 using stones sourced from Pula Arena.

Notably, the cathedral showcases a collection of mosaics from the 5th and 6th centuries, making it a captivating destination for enthusiasts of historical art. Visitors can explore the cathedral free of charge and even attend Sunday masses during their holiday.

Brijuni National Park

The northern part of the Adriatic Sea is adorned with 14 small islands that collectively form the Brijuni National Park.

This nature reserve not only boasts a rich historical heritage dating back to ancient Roman times but also offers a serene environment free from the hustle and bustle of cars. For those visiting on a day trip, keep an eye out for dinosaur footprints scattered across the ancient sites.

To witness the enchanting sight of dolphins gracefully swimming in the Adriatic, it is recommended to stay until sunset.

Situated approximately 14 km northwest of Pula, reaching Brijuni National Park is a breeze with a short 15-minute boat ride from the town of Fazana. Boats depart almost every hour starting from 9 am onwards.

Pula Aquarium

Fort Verudela, a historical defense complex of the Austro-Hungary, houses the renowned Pula Aquarium.

This family-oriented facility showcases an extensive collection of fish species originating from both the northern and southern regions of the Adriatic Sea, as well as various species found in Croatian rivers and lakes.

In addition to observing captivating marine creatures like sharks and seahorses, visitors can also appreciate the valuable efforts of the Marine Turtle Rescue Center, which actively contributes to marine conservation.
