A large tree at the Oil India complex outside the airport was uprooted by the storm, according to Chief Airport Officer (CAO) Utpal Baruah, who also reported that a road was blocked.
"Being quite ancient, it was unable to endure the blow. This caused the ceiling to collapse, allowing water to pour inside. But nothing was hurt, and everything was under control," he stated.
Additionally, according to Baruah, water entered the terminal through the ceiling.
"I'm keeping a close eye on things to make sure people are not inconvenienced. Six flights had to be diverted as a result of the severe storm and intense rain," he said.
Air India, IndiGo, and Air India Express flights have been rerouted to Agartala and Kolkata in the interim.
However, operations were restored and aircraft began landing at the Guwahati airport when the visibility improved later.
