Our expectations were set high when we arrived on Hvar Island, but little did we know that they would be exceeded in the most incredible way. Despite its reputation as a party destination for celebrities like Prince Harry, George Clooney, Jay-Z, and Beyonce, it wasn't the beauty of Hvar town or the parties that left us in awe.
Instead, it was the island as a whole that captivated us. From the charming white-washed towns of Stari Grad and Vrboska to the serene beaches and coves in the south, Hvar Island offers a diverse range of experiences.
The crystal-clear waters and secluded lagoons of the Pakleni islands, the delightful local restaurants serving mouthwatering Dalmatian cuisine, and the picturesque rolling hills adorned with lavender, olive trees, and vineyards all contribute to the island's allure.
We highly recommend venturing beyond the Hvar town bubble and exploring the rest of the island. Trust us, you won't be disappointed. To make the most of your stay, we have compiled a list of our favorite things to do on Hvar Island, complete with personal recommendations and helpful tips.
Malo Zaraće Beach Do Checkout in 2024
Malo Zaraće, our beloved beach on Hvar, is reluctantly being revealed to others, as we cannot bear the idea of our hidden paradise being discovered by others. Nestled in a secluded bay, with cliffs on one side and a distinctive rock formation on the other, Malo Zarace truly is a heavenly retreat.
We indulged in countless hours of pure bliss in the crystal-clear waters, relishing in the fact that we had the beach mostly to ourselves. Situated approximately 30 minutes away from Hvar Town, along the main road to Stari Grad, Zaraće awaits those seeking a tranquil escape.
Pokonji Dol Checkout in 2024
Pokonji Dol, reminiscent of a classic 70's James Bond movie, embodies the essence of a Mediterranean paradise. Situated just a brief 25-minute stroll away from town, it stands out as the most convenient and exceptional beach in proximity to Hvar town.
The water here boasts an astonishingly vibrant turquoise hue, embraced by lush green hills and the occasional orange beach umbrella. Although the beach maintains its pebbly nature, we discovered it to be more comfortable for lounging compared to others in the vicinity.
Additionally, Pokonji Dol is accompanied by two charmingly authentic restaurants that serve the freshest catches of the day, complemented by ice-cold beers that are simply perfect for enjoying a sundowner. For those seeking extra comfort, sunbeds are available for hire at prices ranging from HRK 70 to 100 for the entire day.
Dubovica Beach Must Checkout in 2024
Dubovica, located approximately 8km east of Hvar Town, is undeniably one of the most captivating and well-liked beaches on Hvar Island. Nestled in a charming and secluded bay, this beach boasts a spacious pebble shoreline that is encompassed by lush pine trees and olive groves.
The glistening Adriatic sea, set against the backdrop of clear blue skies, beckons visitors to take a refreshing swim.
During our visit, we couldn't resist the allure of the inviting waters, and it proved to be an idyllic experience.
Additionally, if you find yourself in need of sustenance, there is a delightful Konoba that serves delectable fresh seafood.
For those seeking a refreshing beverage, the Dubovica beach bar is worth a visit. Moreover, the shade provided by the pine trees offers a welcome respite from the scorching Croatian summer sun.
