Dubrovnik, located in Croatia, is renowned for its captivating charm. The city is widely recognized for its medieval Old Town, breathtaking landscapes, and its recent association with the popular TV series, Game of Thrones.
Having visited Dubrovnik on numerous occasions, I find myself increasingly enamored with its allure. Despite the influx of tourists, there is an inexplicable allure within the ancient brick alleyways that continuously draws me back.
Dubrovnik serves as an ideal destination for those seeking a blend of beachside relaxation and cultural exploration. The remarkably preserved medieval town offers a unique opportunity to delve into Dubrovnik's rich history, all while relishing in the splendor of the picturesque Croatian coastline.
Game of Thrones walking tour
The Game of Thrones walking tours in Dubrovnik are incredibly popular, as I discovered firsthand. Although the show had aired several years prior, it was my friend from Dubrovnik who initially pointed out the locations used in the TV series.
However, this time around, the city was bustling with organized walking tours that took visitors to all the major filming spots in the Old Town.
The knowledgeable guides even showed us pictures of the scenes to help us identify them.
As devoted fans of the show, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the world of Kings Landing for a day. The tour, which lasted approximately two hours, provided a delightful blend of sightseeing and insights into the beloved TV series.
Kayak sunset tour
At 4 pm, the Group gathered together and we spent some time ensuring that everyone had their life jackets and kayaks ready. We also had a brief security chat before we finally set off on our kayaking adventure.
It was truly awe-inspiring and breathtaking to kayak under the towering walls of the Old Town of Dubrovnik.
The sheer size of the walls appeared even more imposing when viewed from the perspective of our small kayaks. Our tour took us around the beautiful island of Lokrum, and eventually led us to a hidden beach nestled inside a massive cave.
Croatian Beaches
In contrast to many other Croatian beach destinations, which typically lack sandy beaches, the same can be said for this particular location. Even the beach concealed within the hidden cave is rocky, although the water remains consistently clear and stunning.
Adjacent to the Old Town, there are two primary beaches, one comprised of small rocks rather than sand, while the other, near the Pila gate, does not meet the standards of an Italian beach boasting white sandy shores.
Nevertheless, our tour guide informed us that this is where the locals gather to relax and engage in water polo, so we couldn't pass up the opportunity to visit.
After some exploration and navigating through narrow paths along the cliffside, we eventually stumbled upon it. Instead of a traditional beach, we discovered large slabs of rock where people lay their towels to sunbathe, accompanied by a water polo court floating in the sea just in front.
